Dr. Alan Byrd is a native of Johnston County who returned to the area and began his optometry practice in 1996 in Harnett County. Dr. Byrd attended North Carolina State University for his undergraduate studies and earned his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

As an optometrist, Dr. Byrd’s passion is eye health. Healthy eyes maximize patient vision and comfort. Early detection of eye disease and other eye health issues can be enhanced by retina photography, glaucoma, visual field and other forms of testing.

In addition to performing primary eye care exams and contact lens services, Dr. Byrd has managed a variety of ocular pathologies including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, eye injuries, and cataract and LASIK co-management.

In addition to seeing patients in each of the four offices, he continues providing on-site vision care to area nursing homes so that patients who cannot come to us receive professional vision care in the comfort of their living facility.

As a new father he has gravitated toward serving our youngest patients and performs many of our InfantSEE exams (see our Children’s Program).
